Daily Immune Support

Need Immune Support?

Throughout our lives, and especially in today’s world, we need some form of enhanced immune support. Whether we are going on vacation, entering the flu season, or simply cannot afford to be absent from work or family activities, supporting a stronger immune system is important to all of us. Here are a few of the more popular items used to prevent and combat illness.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most tried and true immune boosters. You may remember hearing your mom say to take your Vitamin C to avoid catching a cold, and there is a reason why. Research shows that vitamin C is a great tool to prevent the common cold as well as other ailments. Taking Vitamin C daily rather than taking a quick, high milligram dose at the first sign of a cold is your best option for success. It is one of the most safe and effective nutrients on the market. People who are trying to stay well often take 500mg-1000mg a day. If that amount sounds high, realize that your body will remove any extra Vitamin C via urination.

Because of its safe and effective history, Vitamin C has become one of the most studied vitamins. It has been found to have strong antioxidant properties that can prevent even chronic diseases. Some research has even pointed to large milligram amounts taken intravenously along with oxygen as a potential cancer treatment due to its cytotoxic effects. Vitamin C’s benefits for many other areas of the body helps make it a versatile addition to your immune health regimen!

Black Elderberry

Black Elderberry is potentially my favorite immune booster. It has become much popular in recent years, even if many people do not truly understand the benefits. Black Elderberry contains some Vitamin C and antioxidants, which we already know is great. However, what sets it apart from other immune boosters is its ability to target viral cells. Elderberry is known for its ability to stop viral replication, especially with influenza. Elderberry stops the virus cells from replicating rapidly while having Vitamin C to boost your immune system. This may help you prevent sickness, or at least reduce the severity of symptoms.

Another fascinating attribute of Black Elderberry is that it does not trigger an immune response like many immune support substances. This characteristic makes it a great option for individuals with auto-immune disorder, as it does not cause the body to start attacking itself. If you do have auto-immune issues, you should be mindful when adding it with other immune booster products, as you could be more susceptible to an attack.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is predominately associated with bone health as it assists in the absorption of calcium into the bones. However, it is also great for the immune system, especially in winter months or for individuals who do not get a lot of sun exposure. Our bodies have a unique way of signaling that we need Vitamin D3 in winter months by affecting our mood. Have you heard of Seasonal Affect Disorder (SAD) or the “winter time blues”? These issues have been linked to the lack of sunshine to synthesize Vitamin D3 in the body. If you are experiencing mood swings, what else could be affected by lack of D3, especially in winter months when sickness is more prevalent?

Zinc

Zinc is another great option for immune health as it helps support cells that protect your body. When you are deficient in this mineral you are at a greater risk for viral and bacterial infections due to your body’s inability to fight back on a cellular level. Zinc can also help with respiratory related illnesses due to its anti-inflammatory capabilities. Taking Zinc as a preventative measure can be very beneficial much like with Vitamin C. In addition, you have already started having symptoms Zinc can help reduce the length and severity of those symptoms.
